Blog Post #9
My experiences with distance learning were eye-opening. I distance-learned for the entirety of my 9th grade year, and I was not a fan. The reason why I say it was eye-opening, though, is because the experience made me realize how accessible technology truly is nowadays when it comes to education. With nobody to tell me what to do and how to act with my schoolwork because I was at home, I had free range to use the Internet to my liking. During my time distance learning, I have used Microsoft 365 applications mostly. Assistive AI, like ChatGPT, was not available to me at the time, but I imagine it would have proved to be very helpful.
Open educational resources (OER) are resources that are made available to the public that can aid both students and teachers in their educational journeys. From the blog titled, "What are Open Educational Resources," a brief definition and description of the advantages and disadvantages of OERs can be found. One advantage that the blog mentions is how OERs can help teachers and students save money on things like textbooks. However, a disadvantage mentioned is how there is little validation on these resources. Here is the link to the blog: https://blog.mdpi.com/2024/10/08/open-educational-resources/#:~:text=Open%20Educational%20Resources%20(OER)%20are,adaptation%20and%20redistribution%20by%20others.
The new skills that I acquired from working on Assignment 4: PowerPoint for Information Dissemination were how to effectively create a lesson presentation. Additionally, this assignment forced me to think critically on how I want to organize the lesson and how I can make the presentation most efficient and easy to comprehend for the students. What I enjoyed about this assignment was the amount of creativity I had in making the presentation. However, I disliked how broad the instructions were for the assignment. I think that next time I complete an assignment similar to this, it would be easier to have more specific instructions.
